So this friday my mom and I headed up to motley mn for the north east livestock show we spent the night at a house that my aunt owns that was 30 minutes away from the fair. So we spent the first night there and headed to the fair the first night. we got there at about 8:30 and we didn't see anyone we knew for about 2-3 hours! but then people we knew started to show up and the day started to get better! after that we went to orientation where they told us where our county campers where (where our leaders would be) and where other buildings were and also told us about our schedule. When that ended we had 30 minutes to have some food at the potluck that was at our county's leader's camper. after that my mom, friend anna, and i ran to the rabbit barn to get our bunnies ready then my mom and i went and sat down in our chairs and waited for my group to go up. We had an a.r.b.a. judge so he was really picky and did some things i have never done before. I was the first group to go up for showmanship intermediate and we had to switch rabbits and try to answer questions about that breed and do a health check, stuff like that. So when we switched rabbits I got this huge mini lop! it was really pretty but was the exact opposite of what i'm used to showing and know like nothing about them! plus i kept looking at oliver to see if he would do good with the boy who was trying to do a health check and stuff and he did really well! i was surprised because oliver usually gets nervous when other people try to hold him. but the boy has a big rabbit so it was pretty easy for him to show oliver i think! when we got to go back to our rabbits he started to ask us questions. but they weren't questions about our breed that we had it was questions about other breeds and questions about the arba. i was already nervous because it was my second show and everyone else there was an experienced show/breeding 4H'ers so they new every possible thing of there rabbit breed and other breeds so i was super nervous! i got a blue ribbon for showmanship and then finished watching the show. when it was over i went up and asked the judge if he had any tips for me on showmanship because i'm not very good at it and he said i did really good but i seemed nervous (which i was alot!) and i need to be more confident when i say my answers. i thanked him for the advice and then we left. the next morning we had to wake up really early and head down to the fair. oliver was in the first class bucks. they had the meat rabbits go first because there class was smaller than the rest. so when they were on the last class for the meat rabbits my class was lined up. i was standing next to this girl who had been breeding and showing jersy woolies for the past 6 years and she had a really nice rabbit two! we talked awhile while we waited for the meat class to finish before we could go up for ours. when we got up there he said he was going to pick 2 rabbits for call backs and then they would be judged against the other callbacks to see who wins. after he looked at the other rabbits in front of oliver he took him looked at him and right away he said good top line! and asked a couple questions about him like how do you say the name and stuff like that. after he finished viewing the rest of the rabbits he said actually i'm gonna pick 3 rabbits in this group. i got kind of excited but i knew i shouldn't because the first 2 he picked were at the right side of me and i knew that the girl next to me had a really nice rabbit, he stalled for a minute and looked at oliver and the jersy woolie and lifted up his had and pointed it in my direction. just as he was about say something someone yelled something to him so he looked away with his hand pointed at me, my heart was pounding, then he backed up and took another look at our rabbits. soon after he said and the other rabbit i'm going to pick will be the... jersy woolie. my heart sank. we got our blue ribbons and as we left i told the girl next to me who got the callback congradulations because she really deserved it! after that we got oliver packed up and left. because we still had to see my great grandma and do stuff before we left. we brought oliver into the nursing home to show my gma sally. she loved him! and showed him to everyone who walked by! i also let him run in the chain link fence that was around the front of the house up north so theres a couple pics on my photo gallery!!! i'd also like to say that isanti was the biggest county at the livestock show and we had lots of winners!!! Congrats guys!!!
I haven't been on in along time! but i thought i'd catch you up on things.... i started school and noah my little brother starts on monday! today we spent probably 2 hours cutting down the corn in our garden and then loading it up on the trailer, hooked up to the 4 wheeler and brought it over to my neighbors for their animals! they loved it!!! the cows ran up to us and livie the goat even jumped in the trailer! oh the north-east livestock show is next week! so i'm really excited!!! i'm going up friday after school so i'll tell you about it on like monday or somethin'!!!! Here's some pics of my brother feeding the neighbor cows!!! Now if you'll excuse me i have to go ice my hand because i have blisters from pulling and cutting corn stalks without gloves on.
